👩❤️‍👨 The Cast of Characters 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

✨ MINJI - Step into Minji's world, and witness the vulnerability of a young breast cancer patient. Her journey through breast cancer as an immigrant intensified when the pandemic hit and shut down the world. Listen as Minji shares the sacrifices she made to preserve her identity as a pianist and how she grapples with the meaning of her life.

💖 ATTICUS - Through the eyes of the caregiving spouse, feel the emotions that surged as he faced an unexpected twist in their shared path. Coping with immense stressors, Atticus shares his thoughts on nurturing a sense of self, embracing imperfections, navigating life post-treatment, and ultimately, how a partner's unwavering presence can be the ultimate source of strength.

👭 FLORRIE - From the outside looking in, a best friend grapples with a sense of helplessness and a strong desire to help. Hear from Florrie: Learning to be comfortable with the uncomfortable, supporting Minji in finding purpose within her cancer journey, and the precious lessons learned about womanhood, willpower, life, and music. Join us to witness “Notes of Purpose” and become a thread in the tapestry of hope.

  • If your score is selected for our program, it will be a win-win-win situation.

    | Your work will be programmed alongside works by world-renowned living composers.

    | Your work will be performed along the east coast spanning North Carolina, Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and Connecticut, and more.

    | By contributing your musical voice to our story, you will help to rally support for the community of young, female, immigrant cancer patients during a COVID-19 world.

    | The trio met while at the Yale School of Music, so having composers from the Yale School of Music presents a profound aspect of what community has meant to the trio.

  • Our trio formed a profound connection in 2020 during our shared time at the Yale School of Music.

As COVID-19 first shut down the world, Minji’s schedule came to a screeching halt as the Collaborator of the Collaborative Pianist Fellowship at the Yale School of Music. With extra time on her hands, she scheduled an overdue visit to the doctor. Six days after her initial visit, she received her diagnosis of breast cancer.

“Notes of Purpose” is a concert program telling the story of Minji’s subsequent journey in New Haven. Witness her story as a young female cancer patient during the onset and isolation of COVID-19, as an immigrant receiving treatment in a foreign land.

Returning to our musical roots at the Yale School of Music (YSM), we are searching for current or former YSM composers who wish to be a part of telling our story. We are seeking existing scores from our YSM family from within the walls of Hendrie, Leigh Hall and Sprague to help us share the message of resilience, hope and the power of community.

Through our performances of your compositions, we will raise support for the community of young female cancer patients, particularly immigrants whose cancer journey in the States has occurred during COVID-19.
